Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. You can create groups, add expenses and settle up entirely on your own phone without signing in. Signing in with Google or Apple is what lets a group be shared with other people and synced to your other devices.
How do I add someone to a group?
By invite only — share the link, or let them scan the QR code from the group's invite screen. They join under their own account, with their own name and picture.
There is deliberately no way to type someone's name in for them. When that was possible, the same person ended up in the group twice — once as the name that had been typed, once as themselves when they accepted the invite — with their share divided across both, and nothing could merge them afterwards.
Someone joined after we had already added expenses. Are those re-split?
No. A person who joins is added from that point on; expenses recorded before they arrived keep the split they already had. If they should have been included, open those expenses and add them to the split.
How do I get everyone in before I start adding things?
Send the invite first. A new group leads with the invite card for exactly this reason, and the expense form warns you when you are still the only member.
Can I change a group's currency?
Yes, in the group's edit screen — but existing amounts are relabelled, not converted. An expense of 500 stays 500; only the symbol in front of it changes. Splitr does no currency conversion and holds no exchange rates.
Someone has the invite link who should not have it.
Open the group's invite screen and generate a new code. The old link and QR stop working straight away.
I am not getting notifications.
Check that they are switched on in Splitr's Settings, and that Splitr is allowed to notify you in your phone's system settings. Splitr only asks for permission once you are actually in a group, so if you dismissed the prompt you may need to enable it in system settings. Note that you are only notified about things that affect you.
How do I leave a group?
Open the group, go to Group settings, and choose Leave group.
You have to settle your own balance first. If you are owed money, leaving would write it off; if you owe it, leaving would push the shortfall onto everyone else. What other people owe each other does not block you. If the money already changed hands in cash, record it with Mark paid and leaving unlocks.
Your expenses and your share of everyone else's stay where they are — removing them would change what the rest of the group is owed — but your account is no longer attached to the group and you stop receiving anything about it.
How do I delete a group?
Also in Group settings. Deleting removes the group and every expense in it for everyone, and it cannot be undone, so it is only possible once the whole group is settled up — not just your own balance.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Delete account, inside the app. It removes your sign-in account, every notification token, and any group where you were the only member. In a group you shared with others, your membership entry stays behind so that everyone else's balances are not silently rewritten — the Privacy Policy explains this in full.
Does Splitr move money?
No. It records who owes whom. Paying someone back happens however you normally would, and you then mark it as settled in the app. Splitr is not connected to any bank, card or payment service.
The app says I need to update.
Some older versions get retired when they can no longer sync safely. Update from the App Store or Google Play and it will start again.
